Tuesday January 18, 2022, Claude Lelouch was invited to the Touche set not at my post. In a relationship for fifteen years with the novelist Valérie Perrin, the famous director gave his opinion on fidelity.
In full promotion of his latest film, Claude Lelouch went to the set of Do not touch My TV. Facing the director, Matthieu Delormeau asked him: “You film love as a person, but I always have the impression that you are talking about multiple loves, as if we were going to have several in a lifetime. Don’t believe in loyalty?“Following the columnist’s question, the one who has been married three times replied: “Love is the religion where there are more practitioners than believers. And love is like a drug. So we can have the right to several stories, but each time, we have to take a little more. There is no going back“, before adding: “That’s why you have the right to make love all your life, you have the right to love stories all your life, but it’s a drug, and each time you have to or the one that arrives breaks records. Each time, we go back to childhood so we rediscover things.“
In the book To love, to life by Catherine Ceylac, the director had already revealed that for him, happiness in a couple was impossible without total freedom. “I don’t censor myself. And I don’t want to be barred from other women. Besides, I don’t want anyone to forbid me anything. Love does not prevent falling in love with someone else. It’s a limitless drug. Loyalty cannot be demanded of me, it must be a choice, my choice. If I feel in prison, I need to escape“, he confided. In all transparency, Claude Lelouch added: “Marriage is the perfect crime of love, it does it a lot of harm. Getting married is putting your affairs in order all at once, it’s like taking out life insurance. When passion becomes a habit, a comfort, as soon as sexual desire subsides, I run away… If making love becomes a chore, mass is said. We can pretend, of course, but then we betray everyone, starting with ourselves.“
Claude Lelouch is madly in love with Valérie Perrin
If the director has a very clear opinion on loyalty, he has been in a relationship for fifteen years with the novelist Valérie Perrin. In an interview given to S, Sophie Davant’s magazine, he also confided: “I have long practiced jogging in love. Finding the one that runs to the end with you is another story. Yes, I found the woman of my life.“
