Track closed – freight train wagon derailed at Semmering

A freight train wagon derailed on Thursday morning on the southern railway line in the Lower Austrian-Styrian border area. At 9.31 a.m. at Semmering station (Neunkirchen district), the car jumped off the rails with all its axles.

No one was injured, ÖBB said. A rail replacement service between Gloggnitz and Mürzzuschlag for long-distance connections and between Breitenstein am Semmering and Mürzzuschlag station for regional traffic was set up. “The cause of the derailment is still unknown,” said the ÖBB. An auxiliary train was requested for the evacuation. The road closure is expected to last until late afternoon.
