TrackMyWatt: discover the site that allows you to track energy consumption live

In the words of its inventor Guillaume Rozier, TrackMyWatt aims to be the energy weather portal for French households. On the eve of a winter that promises to be colder and more perilous than ever, this tool is used to better visualize the challenges of energy sobriety.

It’s time for energy sobriety. Advice abounds on all sides to limit our use of energy to what is strictly necessary. TrackMyWatt, the latest creation of Guillaume Rozier, the engineer to whom we already owe the CovidTracker and ViteMaDose sites, is a window on electricity consumption in France.

With this site, Me Rozier offers us to follow the country’s electricity consumption in real time. The day after the announcement by the government of an energy sobriety plan, the inventor launched TrackMyWatt, a portal that aims to help citizens gauge the effectiveness of their efforts to save electricity. The data provided by RTEthe Electricity Transmission Network, are transformed into visualizations that are easier to understand than consumption figures that are a little too abstract.

TrackMyWatt allows us to better position ourselves in relation to the objective of -10% electricity consumption

At the microphone of FranceTVInfo, Guillaume Rozier declares that its application has two usess. In the short term, TrackMyWatt allows you to see if, in its own words, “we’re going to make it through the winter”. Indeed, there is a strong risk of seeing cuts throughout the territory in the coming months. The government plans to cut Internet boxes this winter. He punctuates with an example: “if we switch on all our electrical equipment at the same time, we can reach a level of electrical power consumption that exceeds what we are capable of producing”. This will lead to load shedding, that is to say power cuts.

In the long term, the engineer adds that thewe will have to electrify our society, our uses, our transport, which will produce a much higher electricity consumption. “And so, the experts tell us that we will have to be more sober, consume less electricity to be able to reconcile all these uses”. TrackMyWatt currently only has three functionalities, which are very useful moreover: the electrical power consumed per second (over the whole of France), the energy consumed (total quantity of energy used by the French), and the monthly peaks of Powerful.

By consulting the site, we see that we are well below the electricity savings objectives. We have not even entered yet a winter announced as very harsh that we already consume between 10 and 11% more than last year at the same time. The objective set by the government is -10% (compared to previous years) on consumption by 2024. The site is under construction and new functionalities should arrive soon in the area of consumption and production of ‘energy.
