Trådfri replaced: Ikea Dirigera is the new smart home hub

With Dirigera, Ikea has officially presented its new hub for the smart home. The previous Trådfri gateway will be replaced by Dirigera. However, it will still be some time before the new app is released – and Ikea is keeping one important detail to itself.

There have been rumors about a new smart home hub for a long time, now the headquarters are official. Ikea wants the hub called Dirigera offer from October 2022. For the previous gateway Trådfri, however, time is running out. According to the Ikea website, Trådfri is “only available for a short time” after the price was recently increased from 40 to 50 euros.

Switching to Dirigera could be worthwhile simply because the Matter standard supported becomes. This is an industry standard for the smart home that is endorsed by Ikea, Apple, Amazon, Google and Samsung. With Dirigera, Ikea is preparing the next generation of networked products. However, older smart home products should continue to be supported and receive software updates.

Compared to Trådfri is dirigera only about half as high, but a little wider. The diameter is 11.2 cm, the height is 2.7 cm. Dirigera can be wall mounted or placed flat. In addition to an Ethernet connection, a USB-C port is used for power supply. A ring light with a central LED can be found at the top of the device (source: Ikea).

Together with Dirigera, Ikea wants one in October revised app for the smart home introduce. This should allow the smart home to be designed even more individually. According to Ikea, the integration of individual devices should also improve.

Ikea leaves one last detail open. At present it is still unclear at what price Conductor is offered.
