After thousands of police officers in the federal capital had to monitor the New Year’s Eve celebrations, the executive has to move out to the next major event the morning after. Traditionally, not only music lovers, but also the heads of state gather for the New Year’s concert of the Vienna Philharmonic in the Musikverein.
National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka has already been sighted – a proven music lover, keyword golden wings in parliament. Together with his wife Marlies, he was one of the first to arrive at the Musikverein. Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen with his wife Doris Schmidauer, ex-governor Hans Niessl and Europe Minister Karoline Edtstadler are among the guests. The New Year’s Concert attracts visitors from all over the world every year.Welser-Möst conducts the PhilharmonicFor the third time in his career, conductor Franz Welser-Möst leads the Vienna Philharmonic through the traditional New Year’s Concert from the classical temple of the federal capital. And in 2023, the major musical event will again be seen in almost 100 countries around the world – thanks to the ORF broadcast with 15 cameras. Franz Welser-Möst, who already played the musical New Year’s morning in 2011 and 2013, has a whole bouquet of new treasures compiled that have never been heard at a New Year’s concert. A total of 14 of the 15 programmed works have not yet been consecrated to be allowed to call themselves New Year’s Concert Pieces. What is also new this year after two years of Corona is that the Philharmoniker are now allowed to play in front of a sold-out house again. Cheers new Year!
