On September 17, the motto on the Theresienwiese in Munich was once again: “O’zapft is!” Just like beer and pretzels, the traditional costume is part of the Oktoberfest. This year it impresses with classic cuts and new colors and materials. In an interview with the news agency spot on news, dirndl designer Kinga Mathe explains how the balancing act between tradition and innovation succeeds.
What does the dirndl look like in 2022? Which colours, cuts and materials are trendy?
Kinga Mathe: The dirndl 2022 combines traditional cuts and modern colors and fabrics. Our current bestseller is the “Daya” model. It has a classic cut with a trendy midi-length skirt. The bright pink makes it a eye-catcher of the season. In the autumn/winter collection, too, we use striking colors such as strong berry tones, intensive blue and strong copper.
The most popular material is definitely velvet. Dirndl made of suede bring more elegance. The bodice impresses with its subtle shine in restrained colors. The skirt stands out in color and completes the look.
In terms of cut, the dirndl is classic. The blouse can be more playful and expressive.
High-necked blouses were particularly popular last year. How is it now?
Kinga Mathe: The trend continues. But the high-necked blouse has one cut modelget competition in Italian top optics. It features a feminine sweetheart neckline and three-quarter sleeves. Ultimately, the choice of blouse depends on the dirndl and its wearer.
What are this year’s blouses made of?
Kinga Mathe: Lace and silk are a must. In spring and summer, silk organza is in the foreground. The transparent fabric forms a nice contrast to the strong dirndl colors. In autumn, velvet and leather can be more lace. It looks elegant and makes a statement.
Are there also trends when it comes to aprons?
Kinga Mathe: Silk organza aprons are an absolute must-have. They give the dirndl a lightness and their transparency allows you to see the skirt. Also laid over the apron string, colorful ribbons give an apron that certain something. They also emphasize the waist.
Which accessories, shoes and bags will we wear with the dirndl in 2022?
Kinga Mathe: This year it can be more color. Why not colored high heels and combine a matching bag with a traditional look? Those who are more reserved opt for statement earrings.
What’s out this season?
Kinga Mathe: When it comes to traditional costumes, I wouldn’t call it “out” because tradition never goes out of style. We just keep reinterpreting them. In order to keep them, we make sure that the skirt always covers the knees. A trendy blouse or a boho tie around the apron add a fashionable touch. A dirndl is absolutely changeable.
