Traffic jam formed – burning truck in Styria: motorway closed

On the A2, just before the Herzogberg tunnel in Styria, a truck burst into flames on a bridge. The motorway towards Klagenfurt was closed for hours. The result was traffic jams.

At 3:43 p.m., the Ligist and Modriach fire departments were alerted to the A2 southern motorway (packing section). A Polish truck driver (63) previously noticed that the left front tire of his vehicle was defective. He stopped and surveyed the damage. He then wanted to drive the articulated vehicle off the highway despite the defective tire. While driving, the defective tire developed a lot of heat and as a result a fire occurred. When the fire brigade arrived, the front area of ​​the truck was already fully engulfed in flames. The escaping fuel had also ignited and the sewage pipe and the water collection system were also on fire. The fire was extinguished using breathing apparatus. This meant that other fire departments were alerted. Ultimately, the fire was extinguished using ten respiratory protection teams. Due to the leakage of resources, the FF Voitsberg oil damage vehicle and the chemical alarm service were also alerted. A disposal company was also requested to vacuum the contaminated oil-water mixture from the collection container. In total, the Edelschrott, Ligist (operations management), Modriach, Mooskirchen, Pack, Söding, Steinberg bei Ligist and Voitsberg fire departments were involved with 16 vehicles and 86 members Operation.The Polish driver tried to put out the fire.
