Migration package: work faster – easier deportations

The SPD, Greens and FDP agree on a migration package. This is intended to get refugees into work more quickly and repatriations to be carried out more quickly. Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck also warns against populism.

According to Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck, the federal government has agreed on a migration package. The Economics Minister spoke in Berlin of a double step. On the one hand, it should be easier for refugees who are already in Germany to find employment. This is also an opportunity for many companies. It is also about simpler procedures for deportations – the Federal Ministry of the Interior published a draft law on this topic.

Habeck called the current migration situation one of the “significant challenges for our country”. The municipalities achieved great things. “But many are at the limit or beyond. This is a serious test for cohesion in our country.” The government is therefore obliged to better manage migration in order to relieve the burden on municipalities. At the same time, he pointed out the shortage of work and skilled workers, which is a growing burden on the economy.

Habeck further said that returns should be implemented more quickly. “That’s why we’re adapting regulations that prevent or make returns more difficult. This particularly applies to the faster return of criminals,” said Habeck.

The Vice Chancellor continued: “With this package we are taking important and necessary steps to get the problems better under control. These are all difficult, often hard decisions. They are people, not numbers. But this derivation from individual cases cannot replace politics . Politics must create controllability and acceptance in society.” Populism is a very dangerous poison. “We should respect the limits of decency. Fear-mongering and anger-mongering only make things worse. We have to work on solutions instead of making problems unsolvable.”
