Scholz calls for confessions from the left
The CDU tries to nail Olaf Scholz’s commitment to the Left Party. But that seems to be a long way off. Olaf Scholz formulates clear conditions that the left would have to meet in order to be eligible for government talks. If that doesn’t work, another three-way alliance would be possible.
SPD Chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz has sharply criticized the Left for its stance on the Bundeswehr rescue operation in Afghanistan. “The rejection of the Bundeswehr rescue decision by the party Die Linke was bad,” he told the Tagesspiegel. “Anyone who wants to take on government responsibility in Germany has to make a clear commitment to cooperation with the USA, to the transatlantic partnership and to the fact that we need NATO for our defense and our security. He must acknowledge a strong, sovereign European Union and to that we deal solidly with the money, that the economy has to grow. “
These requirements are non-negotiable. “Anyone who chooses the SPD to get me as Chancellor can be sure that this will apply. The citizens know me from all the public offices that I have held in recent years. They know that I am a very pragmatic one I am a politician who would never playfully deal with the basics of proper governance. ” In the vote in the Bundestag on the evacuation operation of the Bundeswehr in Afghanistan at the end of August, the majority of left-wing MPs abstained, but there were also some yes and no votes.
Scholz sees many overlaps with the Greens
In the direction of the Greens, Scholz said: “I would like to govern together with the Greens. I have never left any doubts about that. I have already worked with the Greens in various governments, in the federal government and in Hamburg.” And further: “We are different parties, we have different objectives, but we have a lot of overlaps.”
Should it not be enough for the SPD and the Greens alone, a traffic light coalition with the FDP is the first option that Scholz would strive for. When asked about a 100-day program, Scholz named three core projects following a change of government. “I spoke of respect. It’s about recognition, but it must also be shown on the account. One applause for the Corona heroes is not enough.” The cashier at the supermarket checkout or the parcel delivery should also earn more. “That’s why I want to raise the statutory minimum wage to 12 euros in my first year in office.” The second important project is to clearly calculate how much electricity Germany will need in 2045 and to orient the expansion of electricity generation accordingly. “We need a lot more electricity from the sun and wind, and we need a more efficient power grid.” And this is related to point three: “To pass the necessary laws so that the planning and construction of such plants can progress significantly faster than before.”
