  • In front of the Gotthard north portal, cars are backed up over a distance of 10 kilometers.
  • There is a waiting time of 1 hour and 50 minutes – and the trend is increasing.
  • The traffic information service Viasuisse recommends avoiding the traffic jam via the A13 San Bernardino tunnel.
  • There – on the A13 between Chur-Süd and Bonaduz – traffic is also backing up due to traffic congestion. Loss of time: 20 minutes.

At 11 a.m. the queue of cars was already ten kilometers long. The entrance to the Gotthard tunnel at Göschenen has been closed to the south since the early hours of the morning.

In advance, the Federal Roads Office (Astra) had expected traffic jams and long waiting times both at the Gotthard north portal and on the A1 in front of the San Bernardino tunnel heading south for today’s driveway day.

On the ascent a year ago, cars were backed up for up to 10 kilometers at the Gotthard on Wednesday evening and Thursday afternoon.

The return traffic is expected on Sunday. Viasuisse predicts the largest travel wave in the northbound direction on Sunday between 10 a.m. and midnight.

Traffic jams elsewhere too

Disruptions also occurred elsewhere on the motorway network. For example, traffic from Bern to Zurich came to a standstill in front of the Grauholz service area.

From Zurich to St. Gallen, the line between Effretikon and Wülflingen was intermittent. There was also resin in front of the Gubrist tunnel in the direction of Bern. The reason was traffic congestion.
