Tragic and burlesque at the same time, the film "Adieu les cons" is a real slap.

On Wednesday October 21, the film "Adieu les cons" is released. After the wonderful "Goodbye up there", Albert Dupontel offers us a burlesque and tragic work at the same time.

A daring film title, a woman who wants to live, but who cannot, a man who can live, but who does not want … And two destinies that intersect. Goodbye idiots evokes the story of Suze Trappet, played by Virginie Efira. At 43, she learns that she is seriously ill and that her days are numbered. She decides to go in search of the child she had to abandon at the age of 15. She crosses paths with JB, a fifty-something burnout who tried to end his life. An agreement will be made between them: JB is to help Suze find the child she lost. In return, she will have to help him out of a most difficult situation. In their improbable journey, they will meet people all as fantastic as each other.

An original duo

Albert Dupontel had moved us to tears with Goodbye up there, released in 2018, and adaptation of the novel by Pierre LemaƮtre. With his new feature film Goodbye idiots, we find with pleasure the unique universe of the director. Once again, he reveals his acting skills to us by playing a man who is completely fed up and whose humanity touches us deeply. As for Suze, she is shattered by a painful past and the announcement of her illness. Deep down, in each of us, there is a little of this woman. Virginie Efira embodies vulnerability and quiet strength at the same time. The duo formed with Albert Dupontel is solar and luminous. If everything opposes the two characters, the tandem works!

A film of disturbing poetry

It is with great delicacy that the duo brings poetry to this incredibly well-made film. Goodbye idiots oscillates between different genres. There is something burlesque in the films of Albert Dupontel. However, the situations are often dramatic. But, here, the tone is bold. We smile tenderly in front of the dialogues and the irresistible play of the actors. Everything is incredibly charming! Faced with the drama and the comical tone, we travel, we identify with the characters, we understand them and we dream of living in the poetic universe of Albert Dupontel.

The director signs a work that does not leave you indifferent. We come out upset, but in no case with the bitter taste of certain dramatic films. On the contrary, we are touched by so much sweetness, with the song "Mala Vida" of Mano Negra in the head …
Goodbye idiots, by Albert Dupontel, with Virginie Efira, Albert Dupontel and Nicolas MariƩ, can be enjoyed at the cinema from October 21.
