Netflix is dedicating a film called “Scoop” to the famous interview with Prince Andrew which turned into a disaster.
It’s a film that risks shaking up the British royal family once again. Netflix unveils the first images of Scoop which looks back on the famous interview with Prince Andrew by the BBC on the show Newsnight, which led to his downfall because of his involvement in the Epstein affair.
In the trailer, we discover Gillian Anderson – very far from her role as a psychologist in Sex Education – slip into the skin of Emily Maitlis, famous journalist across the Channel, opposite Prince Andrew, played by a transformed Rufus Sewell to the opportunity.
The stakes are high for the favorite son of Elizabeth II who accepts the interview in order to tell the whole truth about the Jeffrey Epstein affair.
Background: On December 30, 2014, lawyers filed a complaint in a Florida court that Prince Andrew was one of several public figures who participated in sexual activity with a minor later identified as Virginia Giuffre , who was allegedly a victim of sex trafficking by Epstein.
A royal scandal
The broadcast of the show on the BBC in November 2019, which aimed to improve the public image of the prince, will have the opposite effect among British opinion. This led to enormous humiliation for Prince Andrew, who testified to his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein and denied having any sexual relationship with Virginia Giuffre.
The latter had also testified on British television a month earlier, calling on viewers to support her in obtaining justice.
In the trailer for Scoop, Emily Maitlis is seen walking towards the camera as the crew prepare to carry out what has become one of the most shocking British television interviews in recent history.
The film goes behind the scenes of this moment which shook the British monarchy. So much so that in May 2020, it was announced that Prince Andrew was stepping down indefinitely from his public duties.
Alongside Rufus Sewell, who plays the prince, we also discover Billie Piper who plays Sam McAlister, the author of the book on which the film is based. See you on April 5 on Netflix.
