Trailer False pretenses: we are perhaps holding one of the most scandalous series of the moment

Expected on Prime Video on April 21, the “Faux-semblances” series offers a re-reading of David Cronenberg’s film with Rachel Weisz in a dual role that looks promising, to say the least. Check out the trailer.

In 1988, the Canadian David Cronenberg was inspired by the sad fate of Stewart and Cyril Marcus, twin gynecologists, for his disturbing False pretenses – Dead Ringers in original version. On screen, Jeremy Irons embodied both roles using revolutionary technology for the time. Thirty-five years later, this story offers a rereading in the format of a series with Rachel Weisz.

Composed of six episodes, this fiction follows Elliot and Beverly Mantle – the first names remain unchanged -, very famous twins in the world of medicine who aim to change the way women give birth to their children.

They share everything: drugs, their patients and “an undisguised desire to do whatever it takes, including pushing the boundaries of medical ethics, in an effort to challenge outdated practices and bring women’s health care to the forefront.”

The first images, revealed by the trailer, promise a series very different from the original film, focused more on the female experience, but with an equally pronounced taste for provocation. Rachel Weisz, meanwhile, appears more unleashed than ever.

Pretending hits Prime Video on April 21.
