In January, Western partners decide to deliver arms in series to Ukraine. Some systems, such as the Marder infantry fighting vehicle, are new territory for the soldiers there, which is why their training is now starting in Germany. Leopard 2 training is to follow soon.

The first Ukrainian soldiers have arrived in Germany for training on the Marder infantry fighting vehicle. The group landed in Cologne and should soon begin training on the weapon system, as security circles explained to the German Press Agency in Berlin. The training is part of military aid to Ukraine, which is to be given 40 martens.

The United States is also sending armored personnel carriers to the country attacked by Russia – 59 Bradleys and other armored vehicles. This will enable Ukraine to “advance and recapture territory,” said US Deputy Secretary of Defense Laura Cooper.

In the meantime, the delivery of battle tanks was also decided. According to the federal government, Germany is sending Ukraine 14 Leopard 2 tanks of the more modern type 2A6 from Bundeswehr stocks – i.e. a company. The first of them should be in Eastern Europe in three months and their training in the Federal Republic will also begin soon.

Overall, European partners want according to the Ministry of Defense “Quickly” assemble two tank battalions with Leopard 2 tanks for Ukraine. The first of these, according to Minister Boris Pistorius, with models that are as good as new and ready to use as quickly as possible. For the second battalion, which will probably take a little longer to assemble, the older Leopard 2A4s are being considered.

The federal government also promised Ukraine a Patriot anti-aircraft missile battery in early January. In addition, according to Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, seven more anti-aircraft tanks of the “Gepard” type are to be delivered by February, so that Ukraine will then have 37 of these anti-aircraft tanks. In the past, the Ukrainian side has always been extremely satisfied with the cheetahs that have been delivered so far. In the coming weeks, further guided missiles of the IRIS-T SLM variant are to be delivered, followed by another IRIS-T SLM complete system in the spring.
