Transfer of Mbappé: La Liga will file a “complaint” against PSG

La Liga, the body that manages professional football in Spain, announced in a statement on Saturday that it would file a “complaint” against Paris Saint-Germain in the context of the aborted transfer of Kylian Mbappé to Real Madrid to “defend the economic ecosystem of European football”.

‘A danger to European football’

In its press release, La Liga writes that “this kind of behavior carried out by the president of PSG Nasser Al-Khelaifi (…) is a danger for European football, at the same level as the Super League”, and that it will lodge a complaint “with UEFA, the French administrative and tax authorities and with the competent bodies of the European Union”.

Earlier today, La Liga president Javier Tebas blasted the Paris club’s behavior on Twitter.

“What PSG are doing to prolong Mbappé with big money… after suffering losses of 700 million euros in recent seasons and having a salary bill of 600 million euros is an INSULT to football”, wrote the Spanish leader, while the media announced that an agreement had been reached between the striker and PSG.

“Faced with Kylian Mbappé’s possible announcement to stay at Paris Saint-Germain, La Liga wishes to demonstrate that this type of agreement undermines the economic sustainability of European football, endangering hundreds of thousands of jobs in the medium term. and the sporting integrity, not only of European competitions, but also of our domestic championships,” said La Liga in its press release.

A “scandalous” agreement

According to the body that manages Spanish professional football, it is “scandalous” that a club “like PSG, which last season lost more than 220 million euros, after having accumulated 700 million euros in losses these last seasons (…), with a payroll of around EUR 650 million for this 2021-2022 season, can offer an agreement of this kind, while clubs which could assume the player’s arrival without jeopardizing their payroll are unable to recruit him”.

In the past, La Liga had already lodged a complaint against PSG for disrespecting UEFA’s financial fair play, and the European football body had subsequently sanctioned PSG before the decision was revoked by the CAS (arbitral tribunal Sport).
