BVB brings goalkeeper – and a top talent from City

Borussia Dortmund remains very busy on the transfer market. After the spectacular commitments of three German and one Turkish international, BVB is now getting a new goalkeeper. And there is even a new top talent in the pot.

After signing goalkeeper Alexander Meyer, Borussia Dortmund also made the transfer of offensive player Jayden Braaf from Manchester City perfect. The Bundesliga club confirmed both changes. The 19-year-old Dutch junior international Braaf is coming from Manchester City on a free transfer and has signed a contract with BVB that runs until June 30, 2025.

Several media had previously reported on the transfer from Braaf to BVB. After Jadon Sancho, who switched to Manchester United last summer, and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, the Dutchman is the third young professional signed by BVB from the Skyblues talent factory. Trained in Amsterdam and Eindhoven, Braaf, who was out for a long time after suffering a knee injury in 2021, was loaned to Udinese Calcio. “After more than a year out of injury, he will definitely need time to find his way back to his former strengths and fully establish himself in men’s football. We want to give him this time,” said future BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl.

Newcomers five and six

The 31-year-old keeper Meyer comes from the second division club Jahn Regensburg and was tied until June 2024. “Alexander Meyer convinced us both as a player and as a person. In him we get a very experienced goalkeeper who exudes calm. He was undoubtedly one of the strongest goalkeepers in the 2nd Bundesliga in recent years,” said Kehl.

After the departure of Roman Bürki (St. Louis) and Marwin Hitz (Basel), BVB was looking for a new second goalkeeper behind regular Gregor Kobel. After Niklas Süle (Munich), Nico Schlotterbeck (Freiburg), Karim Adeyemi (Salzburg) and Salih Özcan (Cologne), Meyer and Braaf are the fifth and sixth newcomers to Borussia for next season.
