Released in theaters on June 7, Transformers Rise of the Beasts returns to the sources of the saga with a plot set in the 1990s. After this explosive blockbuster, when will the next installment of the franchise be released in cinemas?
After Bumblebee, released in 2018, the Transformers saga has been back on the big screen since June 7 with Rise of the Beasts. This 7th opus in the saga is directed by Steven Caple Jr, who succeeds Michael Bay (author of the first 5 films) and Travis Knight, who signed the spin-off on the yellow Autobot.
The franchise, which brought in $4.8 billion at the global box office, will it continue its cinema adventure with an 8th film? The answer is yes ! Announced in April 2020, Transformers One will land in theaters on September 11, 2024.
However, it will not be a live action feature film but an animated film which will be directed by Josh Cooley, author of Toy Story 4. Like Bumblebee and Rise of the Beasts, Transformers One will set its action before the events chronicled in the original Michael Bay films.
This time, Earth will not be the playground of the Autobots and Decepticons. The plot will take us to Cybertron, the home planet of the Transformers. The story will notably explore the relationship between the hero Optimus Prime and the antagonist Megatron.
In the meantime, if you haven’t seen Rise of the Beasts yet, it’s been in theaters since June 7. This new part takes place in the heart of the 90s and takes us to the four corners of the globe. An all-new faction of Transformers robots – the Maximals – will join the Autobots in their eternal battle against the Decepticons.
Moreover, (SPOILER WARNING), the end of Rise of the Beasts heralds a future crossover between the Transformers and GI Joe franchises. Will the super-soldiers be brought to lend a hand to the Autobots in the continuation of their war against the Decepticons for the time of an explosive collaboration? The mystery is still whole. Moreover, this is not the first time that the idea of a shared universe around Hasbro licenses has been mentioned. This time, the project seems to materialize.
