Transformers: Further sequels to the action series are planned

It was over ten years ago that the "Transformers" made the box office sound for the first time. The film series about warring robots from outer space became a mega-success: Parts four and five each grossed over a billion dollars worldwide – and if the Paramount film studio is concerned, it should continue like this. So there are big plans for the future of the robot saga, as the "Hollywood Reporter" reports.

Accordingly, Paramount and the toy manufacturer Hasbro, whose products gave the idea for "Transformers", plan to build a film universe – similar to the superheroes from Marvel's "Avengers" series. That would mean that previously separate storylines and characters, for example from the spin-off "Bumblebee", could meet.

What is known about the "Transformers" sequel

The thematic direction in which the universe is to be expanded does not yet appear to be certain. According to the industry magazine, there are two possible concepts from two authors: James Vanderbilt (44) provided the template for the Netflix comedy "Murder Mystery" with Adam Sandler (53) and worked on the screenplay for the "Spiderman" films with Andrew Garfield (36) with. Joby Harold, however, developed the script for "King Arthur – Legend of the Sword". Michael Bay (54), who has directed the previous five "Transformers" films, will act as executive producer, who is directing is not yet known.

The return of Shia LaBeouf (33), the main actor in the first three films, is considered unlikely. He said he found films that were very action-packed not fun, the actor said in a recent interview for Build. "I'm looking for films that focus on character and that move me."

The "Transformers" saga

"Transformers" tells of the epic battle between the Autobots – intelligent robots from space that live on Earth disguised as cars – and their opponents, the Decepticons – evil robots from space that can turn into military equipment. The Autobots around the heroic Optimus Prime are supported by some people – previously embodied by Shia LaBeouf, Mark Wahlberg – with whom they have made friends.
