(Boursier.com) — Air carriers recorded a dynamic month of July to say the least. According to data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), total passenger traffic (measured in revenue passenger kilometers or RPK) increased by 26.2% year-on-year. Globally, traffic now reaches 95.6% of pre-health crisis levels. Domestic traffic jumped 21.5% compared to July 2022 and is now 8.3% higher than July 2019. July RPKs are also the highest ever recorded, very supported by strong demand in the market Chinese interior.
International traffic increased by 29.6% compared to the same month last year, with all markets showing robust growth. International RPKs reached 88.7% of summer 2019 levels. The passenger load factor for the industry stood at 85.7%, the highest monthly level on record.
“Planes were full in July as people continue to travel in ever greater numbers. Importantly, forward ticket sales indicate that traveler confidence remains high. And there is every reason to be optimistic that the recovery will continue,” says IATA Director General Willie Walsh.
