Transport Electrification of coaches and heavy goods vehicles: up to 150,000 euros in aid per vehicle


Carriers who acquire a heavy goods vehicle running on electricity will be able to receive up to 150,000 euros in aid per vehicle, said Monday the Ministry of Transport, which announced in November the provision of a total budget of 65 million euros.

“The subsidy may reach 65% of the difference in acquisition cost between the electric vehicle and its diesel equivalent, according to a scale that will take into account the type of vehicle,” the ministry said.

Cars, buses, heavy goods vehicles: details of the subsidies

Thus, for heavy goods vehicles, this aid will amount to “up to 100,000 euros per vehicle whose maximum weight is less than 26 tonnes” and “up to 150,000 euros per vehicle whose maximum weight is greater than or equal to 26 tons”. For coaches and electric buses, the subsidy may amount to “up to 100,000 euros per vehicle”.

“In addition, the installation of charging stations dedicated to these vehicles may be subject to support of up to 60%”, adds the ministry.

He would like to point out that “the bonus for the acquisition of heavy electric and hydrogen vehicles will be maintained, in particular so as not to penalize files already in progress”.

A call for projects should be launched at the beginning of March

The procedures for obtaining this additional aid (allocated within the framework of a call for projects) were unveiled at the end of a Ministerial Council for the development of innovation in transport dedicated to the energy transition of the sector.

With the “willingness to decarbonize road transport”, the Minister of Transport Jean-Baptiste Djebbari announced the opening, by “early March”, of the call for projects to “support projects for heavy electric vehicles, integrating the necessary terminals to recharge them”.

Dubbed the “Ecosystem of heavy electric vehicles”, this call for projects will be open to all players “contributing to the deployment of mobility and the transport of electric goods” and “will aim to support the emergence of these “clean” solutions. especially on short distance and urban logistics”.

The 680,000 French trucks, buses and coaches represent 2% of the national road vehicle fleet and 22% of total greenhouse gas emissions from the transport sector, according to the 2021 public report on the environment in France.
