(Boursier.com) — Around SAS. In an unenviable situation, the Scandinavian airline must now face a work stoppage for its pilots. Unions representing around 1,000 of the carrier’s pilots warned last month that they would walk off the job during one of the busiest times of the year, after failing to agree a new collective bargaining agreement in the spring.

SAS wishes to continue the mediation in order to reach an agreement and end the strike as soon as possible. “We deeply regret that our customers are affected by this strike, it is causing flight delays and cancellations. We know that all of our passengers are looking forward to their summer holidays and have booked trips for themselves and loved ones. SAS employees are working hard to help…A strike at this time is devastating for SAS and puts the future of the company at risk, including the jobs of thousands of colleagues,” says Anko van der Werff, CEO of SAS.

The Nordic company estimates that this work stoppage will lead to the cancellation of around 50% of its flights and will affect around 30,000 passengers per day.
