Trapped – Farmer (73) died while working with wood

Almost simultaneously there were dramatic forest accidents on Monday afternoon in the Carinthian communities of Stockenboi (Villach district) and St. Paul (Wolfsberg district). The accident in St. Paul was fatal.

According to the police, the 73-year-old farmer from St. Paul in Lavanttal was trapped between a winch and his tractor at around 2 p.m. during woodwork for an unexplained cause. He suffered fatal injuries. A neighbor who heard the noise of the tractor looked around 3:30 p.m. and alerted the emergency services. Resuscitation attempts came too late for the 73-year-old. “Despite attempts at resuscitation, we were no longer able to help the man,” regret the rescue workers. The volunteer fire brigade Granitztal and the volunteer fire brigade St. Paul were in action. In Stockenboi, a 54-year-old forest worker was doing felling work together with a 47-year-old Villacher when the suspension rope lost tension and fell to the ground. The rope hit the forester’s right foot and severely injured his ankle. The injured man was rescued with a rope and flown to the state hospital by the RK1 rescue helicopter.
