Travel: Interactive world map shows the current situation regarding entry, tests, quarantine

Corona still has a firm grip on us in Germany. In many other countries, too, the situation is still very tense. The Federal Government therefore continues to advise against tourist trips abroad.

The Robert Koch Institute currently classifies most of the popular holiday destinations as risk, high incidence or virus variant areas. Austria, Switzerland, Greece and Italy, for example, are considered high-risk areas, while Croatia and France are high-incidence areas. This means that there is a high risk of infection for travelers in these countries.

Virus variety areas particularly dangerous

Virus variant areas such as Brazil, South Africa and India are considered particularly dangerous – due to the occurrence of mutated and even more contagious Sars-CoV-2 variants, the risk of becoming infected there is higher than in other areas. India has banned tourist entry, but Brazil and South Africa allow them with negative PCR tests. The virus variant P.1, which was first discovered there, is rampant in Brazil, and B.1.351 in South Africa.

Travelers who now spend their vacation abroad not only run a risk of infection, they also have to observe a few rules. Even if entry into countries such as France and Croatia is possible with a negative PCR test and without quarantine. Because there are still lockdown restrictions and curfews on site in many countries.

All air travelers must submit an airline negative PCR test

The return trip to Germany also poses problems. According to the Corona Entry Ordinance of March 30, all air travelers, regardless of which country they come from, must present a negative Corona test (PCR or medical certificate) to the airline before returning home. Without this, airlines are not allowed to take them with them at all. That means: If the test result is positive, you are first under quarantine in the holiday country.

Anyone returning to Germany from a risk area must also contact the Federal Republic of Germany before entering the country www.einreiseanmeldung.de register and go into a ten-day quarantine upon arrival. This can be ended after five days at the earliest with a negative PCR test result.

14-day quarantine on return from virus variant area

Those returning from a high incidence or virus variant area are subject to even stricter rules. In addition to registering, you must present a negative test result that is not older than 48 hours upon entry.

When returning from a virus variant area, a 14-day quarantine is also required, which cannot be ended early with a test. Attention: The regulations can vary from state to state.

Travel countries are preparing for summer

The conditions for a vacation are therefore anything but ideal at the moment. Nevertheless, some countries are already preparing for the holiday season. For example, Austria wants to end the lockdown soon and slowly open up to tourism again.

As of May 19, according to the plan, hotels are to open again in addition to cultural establishments and restaurants. The ten-day quarantine obligation, which is currently in force, should then be lifted so that entry with proof of vaccination from the EU or a negative corona test would be possible – but this only happens if the infection situation does not worsen.

From May, organizers are betting on the Balearic and Greek Islands

The major organizers also want to increase their offerings again as soon as possible. After the much-discussed Easter restart on Mallorca, Tui is planning, for example, to head for other holiday destinations soon: From the first mail onwards, the organizer will again be offering trips to the neighboring Balearic islands of Ibiza and Formentera.

The first flights to Faro on the Portuguese Algarve are planned for May 5th. At the moment, travel to Portugal for vacation purposes from EU countries with a 14-day incidence of 150 or more is not allowed.

Important Greek destinations such as Crete, Rhodes, Kos, Corfu and the western Peloponnese are to follow from mid-May. Entry to Greece from Germany is already possible with a negative PCR test and without the obligation to quarantine. However, the nationwide lockdown in the country was extended to May 3 due to the increasing number of infections.
