There was actually supposed to be a huge party this weekend in Houston, Texas. Around 100,000 guests were expected at the Astroworld Festival, organized by rapper Travis Scott (29). But the big event got completely out of control and ended in a fatal disaster.
On Friday afternoon (local time) there were tumultuous scenes at the entrance to the festival. Eyewitness recordings show dozens of people unceremoniously stormed an entrance to the party grounds. A few security employees tried to stop the crowd running by, but had no chance. Several people were injured in the incidents.
Festival stopped after deaths
Later in the evening there were more dramatic scenes on the premises. As reported by several US broadcasters, panic broke out among the visitors shortly after 9 p.m. during a concert. Unconfirmed video images show resuscitation attempts being made on people on the sidelines of the concert while the show continued on stage.
The US broadcaster “abc13” reports that at least eight people died at the festival and over 100 people were injured.
Due to the tragic events, those responsible announced later that night that the events planned for Saturday had been canceled. Investigations are now underway on the festival site.
The Astroworld Festival was launched in 2018 by Travis Scott. The big event is named after an album that the rapper released that year. After the 2020 festival could not take place due to the corona pandemic, this year’s event was sold out within an hour. (cat)
