Similar to Indian zodiac signs, the Celtic tree horoscope is not based on the stars, but on the surroundings Nature. However, what animals were to the Native Americans, trees were apparently to the Celts.
Tree Horoscope: The Background
In the Celtic calendar, which historians believe was created a good 2,000 years ago, there were 13 months of 28 days each, based on the phases of the moon. However, the Celts made a distinction 21birth trees, instead of just 13 – otherwise it would be too easy. Except for the four trees oak, birch, olive and beech as well as the poplar every treeassigned to two periods per year or one period per half-year. According to Celtic belief, the properties corresponding to the tree were particularly pronounced in people who were born in the respective periods. This is how the tree horoscope came about.
Oak, birch, olive tree and beech have a special position in the Celtic horoscopethan each of them only a single day assigned in the calendar: winter and summer solstice, i.e. December 21st (beech) and June 20th (birch), as well as the beginning of spring and autumn on March 20th (oak) and September 22nd (olive).
The poplar On the other hand, the Druids made their big appearance three times a year – why is not reliably known.
Scientists assume that what obviously applies to Egyptian zodiac signs also applies to the Celtic tree signs: In the Druids’ worldview, trees represented a species Gods and could therefore represent human characteristics.
