Why can fashionistas look forward to spring? The trench coat is getting an upgrade: the sleeves come off, the style becomes more casual.

Thick winter coats are still our daily companions. But this upcoming trend already gives hope that spring temperatures will move in as quickly as possible: sleeveless trench coats. They are worn over T-shirts, sweaters, dresses and skirts and are the perfect alternative to between-seasons jackets. Actress Zendaya (24, "Greatest Showman") shows it off with her combination of tracksuit, high heels and trench coat vest.

Typical of the trench coat look are the single or double row of distinctive buttons, the extra layer of fabric over the shoulder area, the so-called goller, and the epaulets on both sides. A waist belt usually rounds off the sporty, chic appearance of the classic coat.

Alternative: teddy fleece

Not only sleeveless trench coats can score points in spring. The cross between vest and coat also comes in trendy teddy fleece. Most of the models are simpler versions without buttons or other details. With a belt worn at the waist, these can be spiced up simply but effectively. Or you do it like Ann-Kathrin Götze (31). She wears her cozy model open over a turtleneck sweater with jeans and boots.
