In the case of the trader from Styria who was found guilty of stealing taxes, the presiding judge of the jury senate, Theo Rümmele, imposed a partial fine of 45,000 euros, half of which was conditional. However, he also has to pay a compensation penalty – 25,000 euros. He also has to fork out 29,000 euros in tax debt. The two managing directors at the time were accused of smuggling hemp products worth 1.1 million euros into the EU and thereby evading taxes amounting to almost 182,000 euros. Both main defendants pleaded not guilty in the first trial. The woman from Vorarlberg vehemently denied that she had acted with criminal intent.
