Trial in Klagenfurt – bank advisor took 600,000 euros from ex-tennis ace

A 36-year-old former private customer advisor at a bank will have to answer before the Klagenfurt Regional Court on Wednesday because he is said to have defrauded one of his customers of more than 600,000 euros. The victim is former tennis professional Hans Kary.

The 36-year-old bank advisor presented the former Carinthian tennis professional Hans Kary (74) with a lucrative investment opportunity. In reality, he speculated on the money, according to the indictment submitted to the APA. The defendant is said to have exploited the trusting relationship with the long-standing bank customer. He specifically chose a particularly financially strong customer and offered him the opportunity to invest his money in a financial product that was actually only available to the bank’s employees. When he willingly wanted to invest more than 100,000 euros, the defendant invested the money in highly speculative products and lost everything. The 36-year-old also had his victim sign various blank documents with which he secured several 100,000. To cover up his actions, he gave imaginary uses for the transfers, such as payments for a car, scooter or luxury furniture. The hearing of the jury panel chaired by Judge Michaela Sanin is scheduled until the afternoon. The defendant faces up to ten years in prison.
