The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, considered that the decision of the community, taken to pay tribute to the nationalist assassinated in prison, was “a fault”.

A few words, a symbol and a lot of criticism tinged with incomprehension: here are the terms of the equation that has been played out in Corsica, for two days, around the flags of the local authority of the island. “To express the collective sadness felt by our people after the tragic death of Yvan Colonna, and in the face of the dark times that Corsica is going through, the flags of the community will be lowered from this day on.”wrote this one in a pithy press release dated March 22, the day after the death of the nationalist.

Asked Wednesday evening about this gesture, the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, was lashingno less lapidary: “It’s a foul, and it’s inappropriate.” And the candidate for his re-election – who has raised a lot of hopes, then disillusions in Corsica, since his arrival at the Elysée – was not the only one to take offense at this symbol. Yannick Jadot, EE-LV candidate, explained this Thursday on France Inter Power “understand the emotion but regret this decision”. And the PS candidate, Anne Hidalgo, added on France 2: “It shocks me. Of course, the conditions of Yvan Colonna’s death are inadmissible.
