Magdeburg’s triumphants are also making mistakes in the league

MT Melsungen pushes Füchse Berlin back from the top spot in the handball Bundesliga. Magdeburg dominated the first half against Leipzig. Then the Saxons start catching up. The SCM has to accept the next setback after the defeat in the Champions League.
MT Melsungen is back at the top of the handball Bundesliga. The Hessians easily prevailed against TBV Lemgo Lippe 28:25 (15:13) on Sunday and pushed their pursuer Füchse Berlin, who had the same number of points, back into second place in the table. For Melsungen, it is the best start in their Bundesliga history after their sixth win in their sixth game of the season.
MT had to work hard to maintain their winning streak in the league. Despite a clear 11:6 lead after 19 minutes, coach Roberto Garcia Parrondo’s team had to accept the equalizer 20 minutes before the end of the game. The final phase belonged to the Hessians again. The best thrower was Samuel Zehnder with seven goals for Lemgo. At Melsungen, Dainis Kristopans and Elvar Örn Jonsson were the most successful with six goals each.
Previously, Champions League participants SC Magdeburg had lost a victory. Three days after the premier class defeat at FC Barcelona, the Elbstadt team failed to score more than 27:27 (15:10) against SC DHfK Leipzig. After a temporary seven-goal deficit, the Saxons even took the lead around three minutes before the end of the game and had a great chance through Moritz Preuss to pull ahead by two goals. Goalkeeper Domenico Ebner also played a significant role in Leipzig’s comeback. Magdeburg remains in third place in the table, but has three minus points early in the season.
Magdeburg’s left winger Lukas Mertens spoke of a lost point at Dyn. “It hurts. We clearly dominated the first half. That was outstanding. Second half, that shouldn’t happen,” Mertens criticized the SCM’s team performance. The triumphants of last season have not yet arrived in the season.
