Tron 3: Jeff Bridges returns in the next film in the saga

The filming of Tron: Ares continues, and we now know that actor Jeff Bridges will return to the Grid in this new Disney film expected in theaters in 2025.

As he revealed on the podcast Movie CommentJeff Bridges will appear in Tron: Aresthe third installment of the science fiction franchise in which the actor first played the lead role in 1982.

For this new film, he will face Jared Leto who plays the character of Ares, a highly sophisticated program sent from the virtual world to the real world on a dangerous mission.

When recording this podcast, Bridges was preparing to join the filming of the film and said he was looking forward to working with Leto, whose work he admires. Since then, the actor has completed his stint on the production, which may suggest that his role in this new opus is not as important as it may have been in Tronor even in its sequel.

In the second film, Tron: Legacy (2010), Bridges visited the Grid again and faced his digital double, Clu, whom he also embodied with great digital rejuvenation.

“I didn’t like what I looked like in this movie”the 74-year-old actor said in the podcast Movie Comment. “It was pretty weird.”

No additional details on his character, or his appearance in Tron: Areshas not yet been revealed.

Joachim Rønning (Maleficent: the power of evil) accomplished Tron: Ares based on a screenplay by Jesse Wigutow (8 Mile) and Jack Thorne (His Dark Materials). The director also posted a photo of Bridges on Instagram with the hashtag “Flynn lives”, which seems to indicate that the actor will indeed reprise the role of Kevin Flynn in this third part.

Tron: Ares is expected in theaters on October 8, 2025, and also includes Greta Lee (Russian doll), Evan Peters (Dahmer), Hasan Minhaj (The Morning Show), Jodie Turner-Smith (Sex Education), Arturo Castro (The menu), Cameron Monaghan (Shameless) and Gillian Anderson (X Files, Sex Education).
