It is the first time that King Charles has been celebrated at the traditional Trooping the Color birthday party. But then Senna Kowhai Lewis drew the attention of the audience for a brief moment.

She peered shyly alongside Prince George, 9, from behind the balcony door of Buckingham Palace on the day of King Charles, 74, first “Trooping the Color” parade. But she was not allowed on the balcony on June 17, 2023. Because the almost 13-year-old is not part of the core of the working royals who attend the traditional flypast, the ceremonial overflight, every year. But her grandparents made it onto the historical coronation portrait of Charles.

This is Senna Kowhai Lewis

The girl is named Senna Kowhai Lewis, 12, and is the granddaughter of Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester, 77, and Richard, 2nd Duke of Gloucester, 78, a first cousin of Queen Elizabeth, †96. As a senior working member of the Royal Family, Richard had the honor of gracing with his wife the official coronation portrait of King Charles, which was published shortly after the historic event.

Daughter of Lady Davina Windsor

On June 22, 2010, Senna was born to Lady Davina Windsor, 45, and Gary Christie Lewis, 52. Davina, 35th in line to the British throne and daughter of the 2nd Duke of Gloucester and great-granddaughter of King George V, †70, met the New Zealander during a surfing holiday in Bali in 2000 and married him in 2004 in the private chapel at Kensington -Palastes – her childhood home.

Senna lived in Auckland for a time

Gary, a building contractor and former sheep shearer, was the first Maori man to marry into the royal family. The Queen once had to officially give her consent for this. During their marriage, the couple lived in Auckland, New Zealand, with their children for a time. In March 2019, Buckingham Palace confirmed the split. Senna Kowhai has one younger brother: Tane Mahuta, 11. Their middle names were chosen to honor their father’s Maori heritage.

Last public appearance at the Queen’s funeral

The almost 13-year-old had her last public appearance alongside her mother Lady Davina. On September 19, 2022, they appeared side by side for Queen Elizabeth’s funeral at Westminster Abbey in London – a rare sight. Otherwise, Lady Davina – in contrast to her father Richard – does not hold any official functions, but takes part in family events. No other private details about Senna’s life are known.
