Of course, her family members chose particularly elegant looks for the birthday parade in honor of the Queen. We noticed some cute details on the kids’ outfits, and the monarch herself sent a special message with her outfit.

The Trooping the Color parade will take place in London on Thursday 2 June 2022. The British royals stand on the balcony of Buckingham Palace after the parade, where they watch the airplane show. What is striking is that everyone is wearing elegant looks. The children in particular inspire us with their cute outfits and Queen Elizabeth, 96, also wears a look to the event that caught our eye. There were a few details that particularly fascinated us.

1. Family shows agreement on color choice

Prince George, 8, Princess Charlotte, 7, and Prince Louis, 4, are all allowed to ride in an open-top carriage to Buckingham Palace for the first time with Mama Kate and Grandma Camilla. It is immediately noticeable that their looks are perfectly coordinated. All wear blue, in different shades.

Duchess Catherine, 40, and Duchess Camilla, 74, also choose outfits in blue. Although the members of the Royal Family do not agree on their outfits down to the last detail beforehand, at such an important event as “Trooping the Color” – in the year of the throne jubilee at that – Kate and Co. should at least briefly agree on a color have agreed code. And that means: blue, white, red.

The choice is not necessarily surprising. “The British flag has the three colors blue, white and red. And these are the same colors you can see on the balcony! White for Camilla and Kate, red for the uniform jackets and the blue worn by the Queen, among other shades of blue”, white RTL Royal expert Michael Begasse.

While George wears a dark blue suit and a medium blue tie, Princess Charlotte appears in a powder blue chiffon dress by Patachou with small flounces on the hem and bows on the collar. The youngest of the Cambridge bunch also looks very adorable.

2. Queen Elizabeth wears costume twice

When Queen Elizabeth steps onto the balcony, you immediately notice that she too is wearing blue. And something else comes to mind: the powder blue suit isn’t new. She wore the same in the platinum anniversary portrait taken in May.

The powder blue Charmelaine wool dress comes with a matching jacket with pearl and diamond trimmings on the neckline and on the front. Queen Elizabeth wears a matching hat with a turned-down brim, trimmed with pearls and diamonds, and white gloves for her birthday parade. Both times, the 96-year-old wears a double-strand pearl necklace and pearl earrings. For the “Trooping the Color” parade, she complements the “Brigade of Guards” brooch, which she traditionally wears to the parade every year.

Set with natural diamonds, the brooch once belonged to the monarch’s grandmother, the late Queen Mary. It brings together the insignia of the five regiments of the British and Commonwealth Army which take turns “flying the flag” for the Queen each year. The symbols are set in an oval frame with the Latin phrase “Quinque juncta in uno” meaning “five united into one”. A crown sits on them.

3. Prince Louis as a little sailor

Kate and William’s youngest son Louis is wearing a small light blue sailor suit with dark blue darts and a tie. As if that wasn’t cute enough, the suit is from Prince William’s wardrobe. The 39-year-old wore his suit in 1985 when he was three years old.

Lady Louise also wears a piece from Mama’s wardrobe. The eccentric headgear, a Philip Treacy hat, originally belongs to Countess Sophie. She could also have borrowed the pale pink jacket from her mother. Sophie wore a very similar look in 2009, also on Trooping the Color.
