Trouble threatens in over 1200 cases
Result wobbles: “Unprecedented situation” after Formula 1 race

The Austrian Grand Prix ended in the afternoon with Max Verstappen’s victory, but the result lists could be shaken up again. The reason: trouble about the route limits. The race control works through more than 1200 scenes.
After the end of the Austrian Grand Prix, the Aston Martin racing team lodged a protest against the classification of the Formula 1 race. According to a document from the racing series, the team claims that several cars were not penalized despite illegally driving outside the track markings during the Spielberg race. That’s why there had already been a hearing at the racetrack on Sunday from 6.30 p.m.
A spokesman for the world motorsport association FIA later explained that at the ninth round of the season an “unprecedented situation arose” and that potentially many breaches of the rules meant that not all possible violations could be checked during the race. The track layout and the driving style of the drivers contributed to this. “During the Grand Prix, race control was tasked with reviewing well over 1,200 cases where it was reported that a vehicle may have gone off the track,” the FIA spokesman said.
The results list will be updated as soon as the review of violations that could not be controlled during the race is completed. This process is still ongoing. When there will be a final result remained open.
During the race in the afternoon, several pilots were warned for ignoring the track limitations, Record world champion Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz were even fined 5 seconds for repeated violations. During qualifying on Friday, 47 (!) lap times had to be canceled due to crossing the markings.
