White House officials have accused former US President Donald Trump (75) of repeatedly clogging a White House toilet with printed documents. This is what New York Times White House correspondent Maggie Haberman writes in her new book, Confidence Man.
The book’s release date is October. But the news site “Axios” has already received a copy in advance and reports on the new allegations against the ex-president. The material in the toilet was found “torn to pieces,” Haberman said on Twitter.
Some documents were glued back together
So far, Trump has not commented on the allegation of clogged toilets. But his handling of sensitive documents has already caused a stir in other contexts in recent weeks.
Documents from the tenure of US Presidents must be preserved and turned over to the National Archives. So say the law. Several reports, meanwhile, have revealed Trump’s penchant for tearing up written documents. In some cases, the scraps of paper were collected by officials and taped back together for archiving purposes.
The House committee investigating the January 6, 2021 storming of the Capitol is currently trying to get Trump to release documents from the last few weeks of his term. Some of the documents already in the Committee’s possession appeared to have been torn up and taped back together.
National Archives recovered letters from Kim Jong Un
The National Archives also said recently that it had to retrieve letters from North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un to Trump from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, which Trump had taken with him when he left office. According to a report by the Washington Post, the National Archives then asked the US Department of Justice to investigate whether Trump had broken the law.
As Haberman’s book also reveals, Trump is said to have spread the word that he remained in contact with the North Korean leader after leaving the White House. (noo)
