USA is building walls on the border with Mexico

In the future, barriers and walls will protect the US border with Mexico against illegal immigrants. This sounds like Donald Trump’s plan, but it is the current US government’s implementation. According to his own statements, incumbent President Biden cannot stop the process.
The government of US President Joe Biden has made a U-turn on immigration and is now building walls on the border with Mexico. As the Department of Homeland Security announced in the US Federal Gazette, laws and regulations must be adjusted “to enable the rapid construction of barriers and roads near the international land border in Starr County, Texas.” The government said the money was earmarked by Congress in 2019 under President Donald Trump for exactly that purpose and could not be used for any other purpose. “I can’t stop this,” Biden told reporters. When asked if walls work, he said: “No.”
Building a wall along the more than 3,000 kilometer long border between the USA and Mexico is one of Trump’s stated goals. Before his election, his supporters chanted “Build that wall” at major events. Even now, before the 2024 vote, the Republican presidential candidate who is by far the leading candidate has repeatedly stated that illegal immigration from Latin and South America can only be brought under control with a barrier system.
Biden, on the other hand, promised as one of his first acts in office that “no more tax money will be diverted to build a border wall.” Administration officials said this still applies because the funds were approved under Trump.
He demanded an apology from his successor. “As I have said repeatedly, over the millennia only two things have worked consistently, wheels and walls,” he wrote online. “Will Joe Biden now apologize to me and America for starting so late,” he asked. Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador described the US announcement as a step backwards. US environmental groups were also angry.
Under Trump, Congress earmarked almost $1.4 billion for barriers. The number of illegal border crossings detected has recently increased again. These include thousands of Venezuelans who are difficult to return to their homeland due to poor relations between the respective governments. Immigration policy is likely to play a central role in the election campaign. According to a September Reuters/Ipsos poll, 54 percent of Americans believe immigration is making life more difficult for native-born U.S. citizens. The rate was 73 percent for Republicans and 37 percent for Democrats.
