Elon Musk comes to meetings of the Italian right

US billionaire Musk repeatedly speaks out on political issues, such as migration policy in Europe. His opinion is often on the far right. Therefore, his visit to a meeting of the Italian right comes as no surprise. He recently supported them against the federal government.

High-tech entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk is scheduled to attend an important annual meeting of the ultra-right Italian ruling party Fratelli d’Italia (FdI). A spokesman for Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s party confirmed Musk’s participation in the Atreyu Festival in Rome.

In addition to Musk, the socialist Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and the leader of the far-right Spanish opposition party Vox, Santiago Abascal Conde, are also expected to take part in the four-day event that begins on Thursday.

Neither the FdI spokesman nor the British government confirmed speculation that British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak would also come to the Atreyu Festival. At the end, Meloni is supposed to give a speech.

Prominent right-wing and ultra-right politicians have taken part in the meeting in recent years. In 2018, Steve Bannon, the former chief strategist of then US President Donald Trump, was a guest. A year later, Hungary’s right-wing nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban arrived. But there were also center-left politicians among the guests.

Meloni was a co-founder of the Atreyu Festival in 1998. At that time she was a member of a right-wing radical youth organization. The meeting, named after a central character in Michael Ende’s novel “The Neverending Story,” is now one of the most important political events in Italy.
