Giuliani’s home and office searched

Rudy Giuliani catches up with his past: Because of his involvement in the Ukraine affair of then President Trump, the lawyer is exposed to extensive investigations. So far, he denies any wrongdoing.

US investigators ransacked Rudy Giuliani’s New York apartment and office. This was reported by the “New York Times” as well as the TV stations CNN and NBC, citing anonymous sources. Giuliani was once mayor of New York City and served as personal lawyer for ex-President Donald Trump for years. First the “New York Times” made the search in Manhattan’s Upper East Side and in Giuliani’s office in New York public. Officials therefore secured several electronic devices in the buildings.

The searches are related to Giuliani’s involvement in the Ukraine affair, which led to the first impeachment proceedings against Trump for abuse of power. The republican’s camp, who was voted out in November, tried to link presidential rival Joe Biden to alleged dubious deals by his son Hunter in the Ukraine.

The officers also went to Giuliani’s Manhattan apartment.

Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani played a key role in the venture and unsuccessfully urged Ukrainian authorities to investigate the Bidens. According to the New York Times, the prosecution’s investigations into Giuliani also focused on whether Giuliani had exercised unfair influence on the Trump administration on behalf of Ukrainian businesspeople.

Biden won the election last year and has been US President since January. The search of properties by investigative authorities does not yet mean that Giuliani’s guilt can be assumed. However, the authorization of a judge against a lawyer, especially that of the ex-president, is rare. It also marks a significant point in the investigation against Giuliani, which has been going on for a long time and, according to the US media, had repeatedly been blocked by the Trump administration. The 76-year-old himself has so far denied any wrongdoing.

Giuliani’s lawyer called the current events unnecessary in a statement. His mandate had offered in advance to answer questions from the prosecutors – with the exception of matters relating to his communication with Trump, the “New York Times” quotes him. “What they did today was legal violence,” said Robert Costello.
