In this podcast episode:

There has never been anything like this in the long history of the USA: FBI agents search the private estate of a former American president. This is what happened on August 8th at Donald Trump’s property of the private club Mar-a-Lago in Florida. During the raid, which lasted several hours, the agents found dozens of boxes with sensitive documents. Many of the files were marked “secret”, including those with the highest classification “top secret”.

With the house search, Trump is legally on the defensive, says Christian Weisflog in the new episode of “NZZ Akzent”. In an interview with David Vogel, the USA correspondent tells how the struggle for the return of the files went on behind the scenes.

New details about the documents and Trump’s questionable handling of the sensitive files would burden the former president, who is flirting with a renewed candidacy in 2024. But politically things are going well for him, says Christian Weisflog. Trump’s poll numbers would rise and donations would flow.
