Tuberculosis: more than 250 children screened in a school in Calvados

An adult fell ill with tuberculosis in Caumont-sur-Aure (Calvados), about forty kilometers from Caen. He took care of children during after-school hours. It is not yet known whether these have been contaminated.

The approximately 250 children concerned will be screened in the coming days.

Contrary to popular belief, tuberculosis has not disappeared: this infectious disease affected more than 4,000 people in 2020, according to the Ministry of Health.

However, it is cared for much better than a century ago.

Tuberculosis is transmitted through the air. It can manifest as a recurrent cough, fever and night sweats. The obligation to be vaccinated against this disease was lifted in 2007.
