Tudum 2023: Squid Game 2, One Piece, La Case de Papel, Avatar… The main announcements of the Netflix event

Since 2020, every year in June, Netflix has held its long-awaited Tudum conference. An event that took place from June 16 to 18 in Sao Paulo (Brazil), and which allowed the platform to reveal images, information and surprises about its upcoming films and series.

The keynote, held on Saturday evening and streamed live on YouTube, featured announcements and never-before-seen previews of future productions from the streaming service.

One Piece, Squid Game season 2, Lupine season 3, Avatar, Rebel Moon, Agent Stone, The Witcher… Here are the major news that should not be missed.

Squid Game

Squid Game – season 2

Released in 2021, the most popular series in Netflix history is still awaiting its second season. Don’t worry, she’s coming! The Tudum was the occasion to announce its cast, with the return of actors Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun and Gong Yoo.

In addition to these well-known faces, this season 2 will also include singer and actor Yim Si-wan (Unlocked), as well as Kang Ha-neul (Midnight Runners), Park Sung-hoon (The Glory) and Yang Dong-geun (Yaksha, a demon on a mission). The air date has yet to be revealed.

Squid Game – The Challenge

Netflix also unveiled the teaser for the reality show Squid Game: The Challenge. This series-inspired program will see 456 players compete for a prize worth $4.56 million.

Marred by complicated and judged filming conditions “inhuman” by some participants, Squid Game: The Challenge will consist of ten episodes, available in November on Netflix.

One Piece

The adaptation in real shots (or live-action) from Eiichiro Oda’s cult manga has unveiled its first images through a short teaser. It includes the popular characters of Monkey D. Luffy (Inaki Godoy), Zoro (Mackenyu), Nami (Emily Rudd), Usopp (Jacob Romeero Gibson) and Sanji (Taz Skylar).

Just like manga and anime, One Piece will follow the adventures of this crew of pirates like no other, who set off in search of a mythical treasure that would allow them to become the new King of the Pirates. The eight-episode series will be available from August 31, 2023 on Netflix.

Money Heist: Berlin

Netflix continues to nurture its popular franchises, with a new spin-off from Money Heist. After the South Korean adaptation released last year, titled Money Heist: Koreait’s the turn of a spin-off series dedicated to the character of Berlin, the diamond thief.

On the program: a new team, a robbery in the heart of Paris and eight episodes, available in December 2023 on Netflix.

Lupine – season 3:

Released at the beginning of 2021, Lupine became a colossal success worldwide, signing at the time the second best start of a series on the platform behind Bridgerton. If season 2 obtained a less resounding success, the French series remains a safe bet, and season 3 arrives on October 5, 2023.

Agent Stone

In addition to its popular licenses, the streaming platform relies on big names and headliners, such as actress Gal Gadot (wonder woman). After Red Noticeshe returns in the film Agent Stone (Heart of Stone in VO), scheduled for August 11, 2023 on Netflix.

This new “actioner” will tell the story of spy Rachel Stone, a member of a powerful world peacekeeping organization, who will have to recover a precious and dangerous resource with the mysterious code name: the Heart.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

One Piece is not the only adaptation of this edition of Tudum. Spectators were also treated to the first visuals of the series Avatar: The Last Airbenderbased on the cult series created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko released in 2005.

Created by Albert Kim (sleepy hollow, Nikita, Pantheon) and endowed with a nice cast, this new version will have the heavy task of making people forget the shameful 2010 film, directed by M. Night Shyamalan. Expected release in 2024.

The three-body problem

This new series with an enigmatic name is the new production of the creators of Game Of ThronesDB Weiss and David Benioff.

Adaptation of Liu Cixin’s best-selling novel, The three-body problem tells the story of mankind’s first contact with an extraterrestrial civilization. Big budget, international cast, visual ambition… The series stands out as one of the major series events of 2023. Release scheduled for January 2024.

Rebel Moon

This is Netflix’s 2023 blockbuster: Rebel Moonthe two-part space opera by Zack Snyder (Justice League), released a behind-the-scenes video of his shoot. What a glimpse of the ambition of the production and the bet of Netflix, which is looking for its next big franchise of SF here.

Rebel Moon tells the story of a space colony located on the edge of the galaxy and threatened by the tyrant Balisarius and his army. As a last resort, its inhabitants send the mysterious Kora to seek help from warriors from other planets. Release scheduled for December 22, 2023.

The Witcher – season 3

A few days before its broadcast (scheduled for June 29), season 3 of The Witcher raises expectations with a new, never-before-seen single. A fight scene where Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer particularly rust Scoia’tael with great sword and spell strokes.
