Tunisia-President appoints provisional CSM

CAIRO, Feb 13 (Reuters) – Tunisian President Kas Saed on Saturday issued a decree establishing a provisional Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSM), effectively replacing the council’s president, the Tunisian presidency announced on its Facebook page.

Kas Saed last week decreed the dissolution of this independent body responsible for appointing judges, accusing it of corruption and bias.

In July, Tunisia’s president suspended parliament and sacked the prime minister, saying he would rule by decree while a new constitution is being prepared, which he says will go to a referendum this summer. (Reportage Moataz Mohamed; French version Camille Raynaud)
