Turbo Kid: finally a release date for the retro metroidvania

In 2021, Outerminds unveiled Turbo Kid, a metroidvania which smells like the 80s inspired by the eponymous film directed by Anouk Whissell, François Simard and Yoann-Karl Whissell. The title should arrive the following year on unknown platforms, but the studio took its time with development.

This week, Turbo Kid talked about him again on the occasion of theIGN Fan Fest 2024 with a new trailer for gameplayto discover above. Outerminds take advantage of the event to announce that Turbo Kid’s release date is set for April 10, only on PC. No console versions at the moment, too bad, but a demo is already available on Steam.

A bloody pixel-art BMX Metroidvania based on the Turbo Kid movie.

You play as a lone warrior on a quest to cross the Wasteland filled with scoundrels and monsters. You’ll have to pass through them – literally – in order to survive.

Run, crawl, jump, grapple, and for the first time ever in a Metroidvania (don’t do any research), ride your bike through the game universe! Ladies and gentlemen, here is the pinnacle of human-powered transportation technology: the mountain bike!

Your trusty BMX is within reach at all times. Move faster, access new areas, throw it at enemies and perform crazy bike tricks to earn bonuses.

Our story begins immediately after the end of the film. During your journey you will meet strange and eccentric characters: sometimes friends, sometimes enemies and sometimes in between, who will offer you advice, quests, fights and jokes (lots of jokes) in a story touching and hysterical created in collaboration with the filmmakers behind the film.

Explore the different areas and defeat the guardians in the order that suits you, making choices that will affect the course of the story, allowing you to play multiple games with different paths and outcomes.

You don’t care about the story and you’re just there to play (video sprint fans, we’re looking at you), all the dialogue is skippable.

Many cutscenes can simply be skipped if you don’t want to interact with them.

Waiting to discover Turbo Kidthe video game, in a few weeks you can already watch Turbo Kidthe film, on Prime Video or buy the Blu-ray at €11.94 on Amazon.
