ANKARA (Reuters) – Representatives from Turkey, Finland and Sweden will meet in August to assess progress on counter-terrorism pledges made to Ankara, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Thursday.

Finland and Sweden applied to join NATO following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Both countries have faced opposition from Turkey, which accuses them of supporting groups it calls “terrorists”.

Turkey, Finland and Sweden signed an agreement last month to lift Ankara’s veto in return for promises on counterterrorism and arms exports.

Speaking to public radio channel TRT Haber, Mevlut Cavusoglu said the August meeting would be the first of a follow-up committee formed under the deal.

However, he repeated that Turkey would block the accession of the Nordic countries if the latter did not keep their promises.
