Turn your iPhone keyboard into a trackpad in just one step

If you work with text documents on your iPhone or iPad that are longer than a shopping list, you know all too well how frustrating it can be to get the cursor to the right position when editing. the text. Most people move the cursor by tapping their fingertip on the screen to try to place it in the right place for editing. There’s a magnified view of where the cursor is on the screen, but it’s usually obscured by fingers, making it very unergonomic.

And as anyone who’s tried it will tell you, it gets frustrating very quickly. There is, however, an easier way to make the process easier, which is to activate the integrated trackpad. This one only takes one step. Just press and hold your finger on the space bar on the keyboard. You will notice a haptic buzz and see that the keyboard has gone blank, and now you can move your finger on the keyboard, and the cursor in the text will move with it. When the cursor gets to where you want to drop it, just lift your finger from the keyboard.

The first few times, using the trackpad can be a bit messy and feel strange. But, like most things, it gets easier the more you do it, and soon it will be second nature.
