Turning point – mayoral castling around the Kummenberg

In Götzis, Manfred Böhmwalder will succeed local boss Christian Loacker, and in Mäder, Daniel Schuster will inherit the “eternal mayor” Rainer Siegele at the beginning of 2024. The relevant course has already been set by the respective ÖVP local group.

Last week, Christian Loacker announced his resignation as mayor of Götzner after nine years in office, and now the local ÖVP committees have agreed on who should succeed him: the previous local councilor Manfred Böhmwalder will step down at the next local council meeting on 18. September will most likely be chosen as the new local boss. The election as mayor is basically just a formal act, as the green government partner has already given his consent. With Böhmwalder, an extremely experienced local politician is taking over the office. The 54-year-old is not only the parliamentary group leader of his party and chairman of the economic committee, his professional background – Böhmwalder heads the Götzis economic community and “Wirtschaft amKumma” – is also closely interwoven with local political issues. The designated local boss has already announced that he wants to further strengthen inter-municipal cooperation. An era is also coming to an end in the neighboring municipality of Mäder: Mayor Rainer Siegele, who has been in office for 30 years, will say goodbye to his well-deserved retirement at the beginning of next year. Daniel Schuster is likely to inherit him. The “ÖVP Mäder and Independents” faction decided with a large majority in an internal meeting to nominate the 44-year-old. The election by the local council will then also only be a formality, as the parliamentary group holds 17 of the total 23 seats. Schuster, who has been working as a team leader in the electrical engineering department at the “Hilti” factory in Thuringia for ten years, has set himself one main goal: he wants to consistently promote the further development of the town center.
