The CDU is in a process of renewal. After more than two decades, the party is working on an updated basic program that will be adopted next year. Before that, the party is giving itself a new color design.
The CDU will present itself with a new party design in the future. The three letters CDU are now black instead of red. The basic color is no longer orange, but a light turquoise blue, as General Secretary Carsten Linnemann said at the presentation of the party’s new appearance in Berlin. The logo includes three upward-pointing stripes in the national colors black, red and yellow.
The redesign is intended to standardize the appearance nationwide, after some CDU regional associations had already used shades of blue. “The CDU is going black again,” said Linnemann. This stands for prudence, clarity and concentration on the essentials. The three letters CDU were originally black, but since 1972 they have been in red, as was explained. The black, red and yellow stripes are intended to represent a “CDU arch” that is intended to represent new beginnings and dynamism.
The CDU initiated a renewal process after losing power in the 2021 federal election. This also includes a new basic program that is to be decided in 2024.
