During the Syrian civil war, government troops use barrel bombs against dozens of cities. According to a report, explosives experts from the Assad regime have been in Russia for weeks. There they are said to be in close contact with Moscow’s military.
Syrian explosives experts linked to the Assad regime’s notorious barrel bombs have been dispatched to Russia, according to a media report. As the British “Guardian” reports, citing EU circles, the more than 50 bomb specialists have been in Russia for several weeks and are in contact with the Russian military. According to this, the appearance of the Syrian experts in Russia is said to be one of the reasons why the USA warned in March of a possible use of chemical weapons by the Kremlin.
Barrel Bombs are containers filled with explosives and metal fragments that are particularly destructive due to their scattering effect. The improvised explosive weapons are usually dropped from a helicopter. The Syrian military used barrel bombs to devastating effect throughout the Syrian war. The government in Damascus has also been accused of dropping barrels filled with chlorine on opposition-held cities.
According to the Guardian, the barrel bomb experts are said to be at the head of the units that the Syrian government has sent to Russia. According to the sources, between 800 and 1,000 Syrian soldiers have so far chosen to serve alongside Moscow.
As the newspaper further reports, the applicants would be under contract with the Wagner mercenary group. However, the relative of a Syrian army lieutenant denied to the “Guardian” that his uncle serves as a mercenary in Ukraine. “They go there as a regular army unit,” he said. “He’s with a whole train. Only four of them didn’t want to leave. Putin did a lot for us and now we can help him.”
