Batman (Ben Affleck) alias Bruce Wayne has to stand by and watch as Superman (Henry Cavill) ravages the whole of Metropolis in a duel against Zod and buries its inhabitants under the rubble. Driven by anger and pain, Batman develops a plan to destroy the godlike alien, cold in his eyes. Little does he know that he is just a puppet of the insane tech billionaire Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg), who tries to play the superheroes off against each other.

1988. Armin Glaser, First Lieutenant of the Stasi, lives with his wife Marie and daughter Kati in Karl-Marx-Stadt. When Kati is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a rare disease in childhood, they hope for a new, promising treatment in the district hospital. Assuming they are doing the right thing, Armin and Marie place their daughter in the care of Dr. Sigurd. Armin soon became suspicious of inconsistencies in treatment. He uses his rank with the Stasi to get information. But the closer he gets to the truth, the more skeptical he becomes.

Timo Bentick is found strangled. At the moment of his death, the student was wearing a horror clown mask. In this costume he scared people at random and filmed them. Schumann (Christian Berkel) and his team find out that Timo was an internet star as a horror clown: he always staged his attacks as a total work of art, with prepared crime scenes and specially composed music. But a video from the night of death does not appear.
