Arnold (Ulrich Matthes) and his wife Karen (Barbara Auer) are shocked when their son Chris (Samuel Schneider) tells them that he has committed to go abroad. The son's service in the war zone is the beginning of a grueling time for Arnold and Karen. Indeed, one day the parents receive the equally feared news that their son has died.
